Killean House is the largest property on the estate, comfortably sleeping twenty people in total. The house is a splendid Grade A listed property in the Scots Baronial style, which was built in the early 1880’s and later extended in 1907.

Architecturally detailed, with crow step gables, crenellated parapet and tall French roofs, it is uncharacteristically light inside, which is generated by a huge number of large astragalled windows and a glass cupola lighting the hall and galleried first landing.  Exquisitely restored, whilst maintaining all of its original features, Killean House now exudes a grand and luxurious yet homely and welcoming atmosphere. 

Killean House is approached through a stone pillared gateway, over a drive which snakes through the woodland past a waterfall, terminating at a gravel sweep at the front door.  Stone steps lead up to a fine wooden porch built by famous shipbuilders, Denny of Dumbarton.  Large wooden storm doors then open onto an internal glazed and astragalled door, which in turn leads into the Inner Hall with its ornate marble fireplace and galleried landing.

The house itself consists of three wings, accommodating a variety of reception rooms on the ground floor, including two cosy TV rooms, a formal drawing room and atmospheric dining room with its beautiful table capable of seating 20, overlooking the lawn and views beyond.  Ample facilities are provided within the large country dining kitchen, with its fabulous oil-fired 4-oven aga cooking range and separate pantry and cooking area.  At the end of your day, the stunning circular library is the perfect setting, with its real fire and comfortable sofas, to enjoy an after-dinner-drink.

After climbing one of the three staircases, you will discover the first floor, where there are ten bedrooms, comprising seven double rooms and three twin rooms, served by five bathrooms (two bedrooms have en-suite and dressing room facilities).  Stone steps lead to the upper floor, where you will find the sluice room with original porcelain fittings and a fantastic games room, with access to the turret, roof terrace and the best views of the house – you can see as far as Northern Ireland on a clear day!

Whether it’s a shooting weekend, conference, special celebration, short break or film location, Killean House is the ideal venue to spend some quality time, here on the beautiful Kintyre coastline.  Discreetly sheltered within the lush woodland gardens, with fabulous views over the lawn down towards the coastline of the Sound of Gigha and the islands beyond, this really is the ideal setting for a country retreat.   You will be made to feel most welcome, but able to spend the most private of stays.
